Chelsea - Shape and Form

Came upon these machines and tools randomly on a Sunday drive.
Pulled over, grabbed the camera and started shooting.
Location is Tumwater near the airport.

Look deeper into photo?

I liked the frame and level of this picture.
I have no idea what these machines are called either but thought they were really neat!

I liked the lines here and I loved how these looked so dirty and grimy.
I didn't see many shadows until later.

Shadows and patterns and of course repetition.

  1. Chelsea, I really like these choices of subject matter. They are interesting and full of different textures. The sawmill one is a great perspective. "Oh NO!!!!! Goldfinger!" I want the light to be different--not so bright. I know we can't always help what time of day we visit a place or what the weather is doing at the time. I imagine these being taken at a time when the light is more golden, maybe lower in the sky? To get more contrasts. I think it would make a powerful difference (especially) in the sawmill image and in the one with those four chainsaw/chain-whatevers in a row. When we did RAW last week, I was fiddling a lot with everything that you can do to change the colors and make them richer. Do you think it would be possible to fiddle with it in photoshop to replicate what these objects would have looked like in more auspicious and magical lighting conditions?

  2. Hey Beth,
YES!! My husband and I both commented while walking around that the sun was not cooperating just right for us. We wanted more contrast and shadows but... eh, you know how it goes. Anyway, I started to fiddle around in Photoshop and starting to dabble because I think you're right. They could be even better with a little touch up work.

  3. Lots of great angles and positive and negative shapes. The first image is my favorite. Its not that I don't like the other ones, I do they have nice angles going on, I just think the first image has that plus nice lighting.
