Svetlana. Olympia field trip. I posted some of the photos of architecture and architectural details. My main goal was composition. I used such elements of composition as lines, patterns, repetition, etc. In portraits I showed great energy and happiness of a young girl. Thank you, Michelle for being such a great model. I cannot wait to see you all in our next class.

I mainly worked on using my external flash in different positioning and different settings. I also experimented with different backgrounds and using natural & indoor lighting with my flash while keeping in mind texture, balance, variety, and unity. Sorry, my images are posted late at night. Its been a very busy week and was just able to finish. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the field trip this Sat. I know its at 11-2 pm but does anyone know where its at or where we are meeting up at?

SVETLANA. I always was attracted by windows. When I lived in Prtland I liked to walk in Downtown, looked at windows wondering whar is behind. There are always some stories behind. Now I look at the windows and think about their forms and composition, what pictures I can take... Last time when I was in Tacoma I decided to shoot windows. Here are some of them. Some of these photos are symmetrical, the others are assymetrical. Some are examples of variety. In others all the elements function as a unity.

Bruce - Emphasis and Dominance
In this photo I was trying to show the silver column as the dominant element because it's set at angle (rather then vertical) to create an optical illusion and slight dizzying effect. However, I'm not sure I fully captured that feeling. The photo was taken with an aperture of F6/3 at 1/125th of a second. The ISO was set at 100 with white balance on automatic.
Bruce - Contrasting Proportion
I think this picture conveys contrasting proportion because the daffodils appear quite large in proportion to the building, which is actually much larger. I took this shot at an aperture of F8 at 1/200th of a second. The ISO was set on 100 with automatic white balance.
Bruce - Illusion of Space
I learned that it's hard to find subjects that easily capture mood, expression, and/or atmosphere. I think I've usually found them in unusual circumstances. I was attracted to this subject because it conveys a sense of space with a cool airy atmosphere. The photo was taken with an aperture of F6.3 at 1/125th of a second. The ISO was set on 100 with automatic white balance.

It was a perfume dispenser, if I had known that the perfume reeked I wouldn't have had bothered with actually putting a quarter in. I think the shadows on her face help show the form of her face and create a little bit of mood (maybe not dramatic but still some).

I like the overlapping going on with the man in the background and the intense stare of the subject.

I feel like her pose helps or enhances the mood.

I like this image even though it is over and under exposed some, I think it has to do with the dramatic mood of the image and the expression on their faces. I also learned you can correct a lot with a raw file. I know we already did that exercise but this one was a lot darker before I edited it.
This was their idea, which I think is especially entertaining. I suppose the pose may even create a comical atmosphere or mood. Even though they are in the middle of the shot, I do think it works because of the repetitive negative triangle shapes and the overlaps.
I really like how Beth always tells a story with her images, so I wanted to try and do the same thing. One of my good friends had her friend visiting from California and she asked me if I would take her out, since my friend had to work all day. So we just went walking around downtown to check out the shops, which would have been more useful if we got there before they started to close and get dark. Eventually, we came across these two young guys who tried to impress us even though they were wayyyy too young for us, but it was very entertaining and it was nice to have a willing model.
